Program Notes
Cosmose is an interdisciplinary project led by composer Francisco Ferro and choreographer Nina Vallon, born from their shared desire to explore the sensory perception of space, time, and the body in conditions of weightlessness.
Bringing together the languages of music and dance, the project examines gravity both as a physical principle and as a metaphor — at once a grounding force and a constraint to be transcended.
It is part of the continuity of the research conducted by choreographer Kitsou Dubois, a pioneer in work related to microgravity, whose approach to movement in altered environments (water, flight, virtual reality) has deeply influenced the project’s conception.
On the musical level, Cosmose is developed in collaboration with the Ensemble Itinéraire, one of Europe’s leading ensembles dedicated to contemporary music creation. The musicians, positioned at the heart of the stage setup, play a direct role in shaping the dramaturgy of movement and the perception of sonic space.
Through a close dialogue between musical composition and choreographic movement, Cosmose offers an immersive experience that questions our relationship to the ground, balance, falling, and suspension. The piece seeks to render perceptible that tipping point where the body, like sound, escapes gravity to invent a new space of perception and freedom.
